Trees are a valuable asset to the urban area.

What do they do for us?

Trees absorb carbon dioxide and other gases from our air.

Trees act as a natural air conditioner by intercepting the sun and shading our environment.

Trees provide privacy and screening from noise, wind and unpleasant views.

Trees provide food and habitat for wildlife and birds

Trees provide beauty all year long

Trees in urban areas need care that trees in a forest may not require. Urban trees live in a very harsh conditions in close proximity to human activities. The soil that they grow in is often compacted and lacks required nutrients and organic matter. Humans frequently encroach upon trees’ growing space with houses, roads and hard landscaping. Humans can injure trees with poor pruning and lack of protection from human activities.

Can urban trees live for a century or more? Yes.

Can you help your trees grow to reach their maximum potential in longevity and beauty? Yes.

What can you do to help your trees?

Prune Your Trees

Water Your Trees

Improve the Growing Environment of Your Tree

Make Sure Your Tree is Structurally Sound

Humans must live in close proximity to trees and it is essential that trees be as safe as possible and practicable. Tree defects need to be identified and the hazard reduced. We can help to increase the stability of tight branch unions by cabling and bracing the unions. Deadwood can be removed. Unsound trees can be removed.

Please be aware that trees can grow up to 200 feet in height, although most trees in the urban area grow to only 80 – 100 feet. Trees this tall are NOT unsafe unless decay has weakened the roots, trunk or branches of the tree. Kelly's Tree Care Ltd. does not top trees to reduce height as topping destroys the internal defense system of the tree and will make the tree structurally unsound over time (which is what you were trying to avoid)
