Stump Removal

The purpose of stump removal is to minimize a trip hazard or to maximize available planting space.  Our stump-grinding machine grinds out the wood within the stump to a depth of approximately 10 inches. Individual roots under the surface are not removed and can be left in the soil to decay which provides added organic matter to the soil. Our machine is 36 inches wide. If your tree stump is in the backyard, your gate must be wider than 36 inches to allow access. We cannot climb steps or steep slopes with the machine so the approach to your stump must be flat and fairly level. Unless otherwise requested, the stump chips that are produced by the chipper are raked into a pile back over the stump area. The chips make excellent mulch and can be spread over the root system of trees, shrubs and plants. To sod over the stumped area, clients can remove the stump chips and replace with soil, before applying the sod or grass seed.

Any stump removal request is subject to underground locate clearances which are to be arrranged by Kelly's Tree Care.
