About Jenn Carroll:

I grew up in the country always exposed to nature and the outdoors; whether it was family camping trips, playing in trees with friends, swimming in the lake near my house or hunting frogs in the pond. I had a reputation with the neighborhood as the kid to call if there was any injured wildlife found. I took on many animals including, a baby squirrel, a baby skunk, a wild baby hare, numerous frogs, snakes and turtles on top of many household pets; hamsters, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, mice, chinchillas and birds.

I volunteered much of my teenage years to work alongside my father in the environmental sector, naturalizing environments; involving schools and community groups in tree plantings and building wildlife habitats. In 2005, I experienced work with the Ministry of Natural Resources as a Stewardship Ranger and knew that the outdoors was my calling. Naturally, after high school, I went to Sir Sandford Fleming College for Environment and Natural Resource Studies then for Ecosystem Management learning about all the different ecosystems and wildlife and how they function and react to different conditions. In the summer of 2008, I got a job with the Toronto Region Conservation Authority as an Environmental Field Labourer restoring natural habitats, collecting data for fish and aviary studies and assisting with management programs. Shortly after, I received the opportunity to work with Eagle Ridge Tree Care focusing my profession on trees. I was a fan of the hard labour and working outdoors with nature yet again, learning that a single tree is an entire ecosystem by itself.

After a year off with some traveling under my belt, I started up with Kelly’s Tree Care. They have helped me advance my knowledge and skills in a safe and positive learning environment. After only a small amount of climbing experience, I competed in my first climbing competition in 2011 and gained a lot of confidence and respect for the job. I take pride in being Kelly’s Tree Care’s Joint Health and Safety Representative, which has helped me learn the safety aspects of the job more thoroughly and helps me encourage a safe working environment with my fellow coworkers.
